Artists Biography

Syed Hassan Mujtaba has BFA in Visual Arts from Beaconhouse National University in the year 2009. He is a practicing artist who exhibits nationally and internationally. A Monochrome Episode and Between Black and White, two solo exhibitions at Sanat Gallery, Karachi, I too am part of this history, a collateral exhibition of Lahore Biennale 01 at Fakir Khana Museum, Lahore, Augmentation at American Consulate General, Karachi and Mere Humdrums at Aicon New York are naming a few.

He was part of Vasl Rohtas International Residency, Islamabad and 13 Satellites, a Public Interactive Art Residency, German Centre, Lahore organised by Vasl Artists’ Collective, Karachi. Hassan is a visiting fellow at Beaconhouse National University and Pakistan Institute of Fashion & Design.

If one scrutinizes the conventional trajectory of a structural decorum inculcated in a behavioral format of a civilized society, the conclusion appears to be sentient. The idiosyncrasies of a system modify human responses in various spheres of life which reflects in cultured standards of living.

The mechanical homogeneity of participants in a congregation or the performance of pilgrims indicates that the religion, socio-political and cultural conditioning design us to adjust and perform in a society with both, individual and collective responses. The expansive spectrum of didactic instructions automates discipline, however, it also induces a sense of confinement. In reaction to the systematic set of circumstances, predictable consequences and products appear on the surface. Moreover, the witnessed intention of refining what is raw reflects the objectification of the fragile nature of human emotions.
