Artists Biography

Ahsan Masood is a Karachi based artist. He completed his MFA from Aalto UniversitySchool of Arts, Design and Architecture, Finland in 2014, and completed his BFA fromNational College of Arts in Pakistan, in Communication Design, in 2008. Ahsan has been ateaching in various artschools in Pakistan since 2009 and has also exhibited his worknationally and internationally, he has been the recipient of numerous international artistsresidency programs. Currently he is an Assistant Professor At IVS, Karachi.Ahsan’s artistic practice strives to articulate the processes of representation and thepolitics of authoring such representations, pertaining to one’s nationalistic, ethnic, religiousor gender identity and their intersectional relationships with media-representation,censorship, and religious freedoms. His body of work gauges the safety—or its sheerabsence—within the relationships between such representations, those who author themand the ones such representations aim to portray. Ahsan’s art practice further brings tolight the contentious nature of the processes associated with conceiving representations,in order to allow them to be reconstituted.In his free time Ahsan enjoys proof-reading profiles on grindr and watching paint dry.
