Artists Biography

Shireen Kamran (b.1954) is a Canada based Pakistani artist. After immigrating to Canada in 1996 she joined Concordia University to pursue her art education as an adult student. She has been awarded with Louis Muhlstock award in1998. Known for her mystic Sufi paintings, Kamran has been showcasing her work nationally and internationally.

Anchored in observation, memory and imagination, my artworks reflect my constant fascination with abstraction. Energetic, vigorous and drifting lines are infused with incessant mark-making along with an alchemy of shapes and colours that bring the paintings to life.

Bordering on the historical and the contemporary, these works invoke the ancestral memory of life and the archaic forms of existence, thereby inviting the viewer to think beyond the image.
